Arena Football

The first question many sports gamblers ask when Arena football is mentioned is “what’s that?” Arena football is played during the Winter and early Spring months when there is no NFL or college football action.

It is not followed very extensively by the average gambler, has very little public action, and is not a big money maker for the sportsbook. So, why do the books offer it? That is a good question actually, but since it is on TV the books feel they must carry it.

Arena football is very often a sport that gives the bettor and advantage over the books. Most of the time the sportsbooks know less than the professional bettor when it comes to Arena football. The astute follower of Arena football can definitely gain an edge over the books. I know for a fact that some professionals concentrate very heavily on Arena football and beat the books on a regular basis. The reason more people don't bet Arena football is two-fold. First, the limits are low on Arena games and that fact alone keeps many professionals away. Second, the league still doesn't have a very big following. The public has just not taken to betting Arena football. Perhaps they never will, who knows.

Arena football is different than NFL football. The field is smaller, the game is very high scoring, and teams are more unpredictable. Arena football is all about offense and because of this fact many bettors that play the Arena league focus on getting information about key offensive players. If a key player is missing in Arena football it is a much bigger deal than it would be in the NFL. Arena teams are not deep and a major injury can cripple a team. Injuries are not researched very well by sportsbooks, because the bottom line is that they really don't pay much attention to the sport. If the sports bettor can research the game, he can find edges on the sportsbook that pretty much just relies upon one Vegas firm that supplies them with limited Arena football information.

Arena football is definitely off the radar when it comes to sportsbooks around the world. That fact alone should tell you something. Anytime the sportsbooks aren't paying much attention the bettor has a chance. You will also notice extreme line moves in Arena football. It is not uncommon to see a side or total move 7 points or more. That almost never occurs in the NFL or college football. The reason for that line movement is the wise guys that play Arena football are more astute than the books. In fact, some books have been known to open up their lines to a select few bettors just to see where they stand on Arena action before posting their lines to everyone else. Other books just wait for a while until the numbers stabilize. If you are going to bet Arena football do it early.

If you are going to bet Arena football the main place to go is to the hometown newspaper of the team. Get the information before the book does. Read and do your homework. This is not the NFL. Information is not easy to come by in Arena football, so if you find the information the chances the book found it is not a given. Betting Arena football is one area where you can gain an advantage over the books. It doesn't guarantee you victories, but it sure does increase your chances.
